Do
it in SAFE MODE……to get into SAFE MODE
1.
Start
computer
2.
Immediately
begin tapping the F8 function key
3.
This
will bring up the start up menu
4.
Enter
the “SAFE MODE” choice: Windows will now load in it’s SAFE MODE. (no background
programs running)
*NOTE:
If you missed the F8 timing and did not get the menu, simply shut down and try
again.
5.
Windows
displays a message alerting you to the fact that it is in SAFE MODE.
6.
Click
OK to continue.
7.
Once
the desktop screen has come up all the way….
8.
Double
click My-Computer.
9.
Right
Click your C: Drive.
10.
This
will bring up a drop down menu
11.
Left
click properties at the bottom.
12.
This
brings up the C: Drive Properties
13.
Click
on the “TOOLS” tab.
14.
Under
error-checking status, click “CHECK NOW”
15.
Type
of test – Choose “STANDARD”
16.
Put
a check mark in the “Auto Fix Errs” box.
17.
Now
click start.
18.
Once
the scandisk is completed.
19.
Click
the “DEFRAGMENT NOW” button.
20.
When
complete, back out of all windows and reboot computer.
